Micrel launches single-port embedded control chip
Micrel launches KSZ8851. KSZ8851 is a single-port embedded control chip with 8/16/32 bits and SPI host interface. This high throughput device is pin compatible with Micrel's KSZ8841 and KSZ8842 series products and is ideal for a variety of Ethernet applications in the IPSTB, VoIP and Industrial Ethernet markets.
"Ethernet has shipped over 250 million ports since 1999 and there is a constant need for higher and higher throughput devices," said Richard Bowers, Micrel's Director of Ethernet Marketing. Micrel's new KSZ8851 offers existing customers The industry's highest throughput embedded controller with industry support for the SPI interface and a small package option for common bus interfaces."
The KSZ8851 integrates a Fast Ethernet MAC/PHY with an 8/16/32-bit common host processor interface and SPI interface. The device has 18KB of internal buffer memory shared between RXQ and TXQ. The buffer memory has a buffer capacity of 12KB in the receive queue and 6KB in the send queue. Pin-compatible with Micrel's existing KSZ8841MQL and KSZ8842MQL series, the device can deliver 80Mbps or higher. The solution supports both big-endian and little-endian processors, and also supports IPv4/IPv6 checksum generation and verification. These features greatly reduce CPU usage and improve overall system performance. With energy detection mode, programmable 3.3V/2.5V/1.8V IO options, and an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, the KSZ8851 also provides designers with enhanced power management capabilities. Finally, the device is available in a variety of packages, including 128-pin PQFP, 48-pin LQFP and 32-pin QFN.
