Renesas Electronics Introduces New ASIL B Compliant Power Management IC-RAA271082, Ideal for Automotive Camera Applications

The highly integrated RAA271082 PMIC complements Renesas' award-winning AHL technology,
Flexibility to support MCUs for safety-related applications

Beijing, China – Renesas Electronics, a global semiconductor solutions provider, today announced the launch of the RAA271082, an innovative automotive-grade power management IC for next-generation automotive camera applications. As an ISO-26262 compliant multi-function multi-output power supply IC, the RAA271082 contains a primary high-voltage synchronous buck regulator, two secondary low-voltage synchronous buck regulators, and a low-voltage LDO regulator, and provides four Overvoltage and undervoltage monitors, I2C communication, a configurable general-purpose I/O pin, and a dedicated reset output/fault indication. To meet stringent ASIL B standards, the RAA271082 features a second independent reference for OV/UV monitor, built-in power-on self-test, independent OV/UV monitor, and continuous CRC error checking for internal registers and I2C communication.

The highly integrated RAA271082 creates a universal power solution for in-vehicle cameras. It is ideal for Renesas Automotive High-Definition Link (AHL) technology. AHL enables automakers to deliver high-definition video using low-cost cables and connectors. The new PMIC simplifies power design for in-vehicle camera modules that require functional safety compliance, including cameras for surround/satellite, rear view, driver monitor and electronic mirror applications. It supports the power requirements of almost any combination of image sensor, image signal processor (ISP) and encoder technology, and supports both direct battery and coax power.

In addition to imaging systems, the RAA271082's high level of integration and comprehensive security features make it an excellent power solution for 16-bit and 32-bit automotive MCUs in a variety of automotive applications.

"Cameras are now an essential feature in all new car models," said Niall Lyne, vice president of the Automotive Analog Power and Video Business Unit at Renesas Electronics. "The new Renesas PMICs are compatible with almost all in-vehicle camera modules and provide the necessary power for users to power their vehicles." All the features and functionality are a great complement to our AHL solution, which was recently named one of the 'most innovative applications of computer vision technology'."
