1. What is a Chip Resistor?
Chip Resistor, also known as chip fixed resistors, are resistors designed for surface mounting. They can be mounted directly to the surface of a printed circuit board (PCB) without drilling holes like traditional through-hole components.
Such resistors are usually much smaller than traditional resistors, so they take up much less space on the circuit board. The use of SMD resistors is due to the invention of surface mount technology (SMT), which not only reduces the size of components, but also greatly reduces the time to manufacture circuits. SMD resistors are mainly used in professionally manufactured PCBs, while through-hole resistors are more commonly used in most homemade circuits because they are more convenient to install and do not require specialized equipment.
There are many ways to express the resistance value of SMD resistors, including direct marking, three-digit digital representation, four-digit digital representation, EIAJ code representation, etc. These methods enable the resistance value of the resistor to be clearly marked on the resistor for easy identification and use. In addition, SMD resistors are also resistant to moisture and high temperatures, and have a small temperature coefficient, which allows them to maintain good performance in various environments. -
2. Working principle of chip fixed resistors
The working principle of chip fixed resistors is based on Ohm's law, that is, the relationship between voltage (V), current (I) and resistance (R) is V=I×R. This resistor is a two-terminal passive component used to implement resistance like a circuit element. The current flowing through the resistor is proportional to the voltage across the resistor. Therefore, this relationship can be simply expressed using Ohm's law. For example, if a 100-ohm resistor is connected across a potential difference of 10 volts, a current of 0.1 amperes flows through the resistor.
Chip fixed resistors, commonly known as chip resistors, are one type of metal glass uranium resistors. It is a resistor made by mixing metal powder and glass uranium powder and printing it on a substrate using screen printing. This resistor is resistant to moisture and high temperature and has a small temperature coefficient. Its manufacturing process includes mixing metal powder and glass uranium powder, and then printing these mixtures on a substrate by screen printing to form the desired resistance value. This design enables chip fixed resistors to work stably in various environments, including humid and high temperature conditions, while maintaining a small temperature coefficient to ensure the stability of the resistance value. -
3. What is the number of chip resistors?
Chip resistors are one of the commonly used components in electronic circuits, and their digital identification is an important basis for identifying resistance values and accuracy. The digital identification is usually printed on the surface of the resistor and consists of several digits. These digits not only indicate the specific resistance value of the resistor, but also imply the tolerance accuracy information of the resistor.

4. Resistance value representation method
In the digital identification of chip resistors, the first three digits are usually used to indicate the resistance value. These digits are interpreted in decimal, such as "100" means the resistance value is 100 ohms. In some cases, if the resistor value is large, "R" may be used to indicate the decimal point position, such as "1R0" for a resistor value of 1.0 ohm.
