Nexperia and electronic device suppliers produce automotive-grade GaN power modules
Nexperia has signed an agreement with KyoceraAVX Components in Salzburg, Austria, to produce Gallium Nitride (GaN) automotive power modules. The goal of the agreement is to jointly develop GaN applications for electric vehicles based on new packaging technologies.
According to eeNews, this collaboration could meet the demands of higher efficiency, higher power density and lower system cost. Nexperia focuses on GaN rather than SiC and manufactures GaN devices in its own factories using proven mass production technologies that have been proven to meet the highest reliability requirements for AEC-Q101 qualified equipment.

GaN-Nexperia vice president and general manager said: GaN devices bring many benefits to electric vehicle applications, including increased power density, improved efficiency and lower overall system cost. However, to fully exploit the advantages of GaN devices, especially in high-power devices, packaging techniques need to be optimized. Nexperia recognizes KyoceraAVXComponents' advanced technology and leadership in the automotive industry, and believes that the collaboration in the development of GaN automotive power modules will enable the two companies to provide customers with superior electric vehicle powertrain solutions.

According to data, Nexperia is a subsidiary of Wingtech Technology, headquartered in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and ships more than 100 billion products that meet the standards set by the automotive industry every year. The company's products are used in a wide variety of electronic designs worldwide, with a portfolio that includes diodes, bipolar transistors, ESD protection diode devices, MOSFET diode devices, gallium nitride field effect transistors (GaN FETs), as well as analog and logic ICs.
KYOCERA AVX was established in April 2021. It is a new company established by the merger of Kyocera's "Enterprise Electronic Components Division" and "AVX". Its main products include sensors and power modules.
