More and more devices are deploying sensors to detect events or changes in the environment and provide corresponding outputs. Sensor usage is highest in consumer electronics, followed by automotive, information technology and telecommunications.
Ensuring these sensors are properly tested is the primary function of the sensor evaluation board. They are used to determine whether a component is good or best for the application. They facilitate smarter proof-of-concept and device development.

The evaluation board has a wide range of supporting hardware for quick sensor evaluation and development. They can include demonstration kits, shielded development boards, and breakout boards for motion and pressure sensors for Internet of Things (IoT), industrial, and medical applications.

Texas Instruments TMAG5273EVM Sensor Evaluation Module (EVM) tests the TMAG5273 low-power linear 3D Hall-effect sensor with an I 2 C interface. These sensors are available in TMAG5273A1 and TMAG5273A2 variants, which differ in the mega-Tesla (mT) sensitivity range. The USB-powered evaluation module includes two handheld magnets, a TI TMAG5273 daughter board, and a sensor controller board that enables the included graphical user interface (GUI). The TMAG5273 sensor can be used in electricity meters, electronic smart locks, smart thermostats, joysticks and game controllers, drone payload control, magnetic proximity sensors, mobile robot motor control, and e-bikes.

The TDK InvenSense DK-20680HT Development Kit is used to evaluate the IAM-2068HT, a 6-axis automotive-grade inertial motion sensor. (MEMS) sensors are AEC-Q100 qualified. The DK-20680HT is used for Heads Up Displays (HUDs) and Augmented Reality HUDs, car alerts, insurance vehicle tracking, telematics, and more. The kit includes an embedded debugger, which means no external tools are required to program or debug the MCU. The kit also contains all the necessary software, the GUI development tool InvenSense MotionLink, and the embedded motion driver for the IAM-20680HT. MotionLink can be used to capture and visualize sensor data from the onboard IAM motion sensor.

STMicroelectronics STEVAL-IOD04KT1 Industrial Smart Sensor Kit tests the L6364W IO-Link dual-channel device transceiver designed for industrial sensor, factory automation, and process control applications. The L6364W acts as a bridge between a microcontroller with sensor or actuator functionality and the 24V power and signal cables. Includes STEVAL-IOD004V1 motherboard, STLINK-V3MINI programmer and debugger tool, 14-pin ribbon cable and M8 to M12 standard industrial connector adapter.
