SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 17, 2022 — AMD today announced the Kria™ KR260 Robotics Starter Kit, the latest addition to Kria’s adaptive system-on-module (SOM) and developer kit portfolio. As a scalable, out-of-the-box development platform for robotics, the Kria KR260 works with the existing Kria K26 adaptive SOM to provide a seamless production deployment path. With native ROS 2 support, a standard framework for robotics application development, and pre-built interfaces for robotics and industrial solutions, the new SOM starter kit enables rapid development of hardware-accelerated applications for robotics, machine vision, and industrial communication and control .

The KR260 hardware platform provides pre-built interfaces for robotics and industrial solutions, combined with the growing collection of accelerated applications from the AMD Xilinx App Store, for easy evaluation and a seamless deployment path.

At the heart of the KR260 design experience is the Kria Robotic Stack (KRS), which enables the robotics community to benefit from adaptive computing more generally. KRS is an integrated set of robotics libraries and utilities that leverage hardware to accelerate the development, maintenance, and commercialization of industrial-grade robotics solutions for Kria SOM. The low latency and adaptive computing architecture of Kria SOM, combined with KRS and ROS 2, can provide higher performance per power and lower latency than GPU-based solutions.

In addition, the KR260 supports the widely adopted Ubuntu embedded operating system and is compatible with the latest long-term support version of Ubuntu Linux Desktop (22.04) and ROS 2 Humble Hawksbill provided by Canonical.
